CAPITAL DISTRICT GOLF ASSOCIATION

The Capital District Golf Association (CDGA) was formed to help amateur golf competition thrive in the Capital District. The New York State Golf Association partnered with an advisory group of competitive golfers and industry stakeholders to identify tournaments to support and create.

EVENTS SUPPORTED BY CDGA

The Capital District has a rich history of golf including terrific individual and team tournaments. Instead of establishing a slate of new tournaments, the CDGA's primary focus is to provide support to (1) existing individual stroke play tournaments that (2) are a minimum of 36 holes and (3) are open to all golfers in the Capital District's eleven counties.

To date, CDGA have partnered with the Tri-County Match Play Championship, the Saratoga County Amateur Championship, and Troy Invitational. These partners continue to operate independently but have joined forces with CDGA/NYSGA to provide support from online registration to live scoring (and much more).

NEW GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

The CDGA is planning to conduct two new, nationally ranked amateur championships in the region; one for men/women and another for junior golfers (18U). To be eligible, golfers must reside in and have a GHIN Handicap Index from a club in the following counties: Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington.

The new tournaments will be introduced in 2024. The goal is to add more championships in the future, especially for women and seniors, so expect more news to come.

AREA GOLF CALENDAR

The CDGA has made available an area calendar of tournaments that are open to the public and at least 36 holes (individual and two-person teams). Tournament administrators can contact CDGA (see below) to have your eligible event considered for inclusion.

CAPITAL DISTRICT PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

To recognize the region's best golfer, the CDGA is adopting the following Points Lists:

WAGR AND JUNIOR GOLF SCOREBOARD RANKINGS
Players in the Capital District will see an emphasis on adding new tournaments, and modifying existing, so that they are eligible for national rankings. This will ensure the area's best golfers will be recognized nationally and provide junior golfers with more local tournaments that are ranked, which is important to college coaches/scouts!

THE FUTURE OF THE CDGA

The CDGA is focused on providing incredible tournament experiences for players and providing additional opportunities where they currently might not exist or if they do, they are under-served. But we will be very deliberate in our approach and probably not move as fast as some might expect. But we welcome your feedback! What type of tournament(s) do you think the region needs?
